Brought Caleb to a show today, Swimmy by Leo Lionni at Victoria Theatre. Weather didn't look too good but I decided that I will take the train with him. Its something I think we should do together. I don't need to concentrate on driving instead, I can focus on him.

The trip was pleasant and people are very nice letting him have the corner seat. We take and he makes magic with the pocket on the bag, if I want five, he can make 5 finger appears. Innocent but very adorable. When I ask for 11.... he shows 10 fingers and then the lady next to him pop up one finger and then he would smile and say, then you go... very clever move....

The walk to Victoria Theatre was nice but amazing because the changes are so drastic. Anyway, he was excited about Swimmy but the next 2 stories, too difficult and tempo a little slow so he fidget a lot.

After the show, we walk along boat quay which I have never really walk through before.. the last time I did was when there was a hawker centre there... long long time ago.

Caleb was so tired with the long walk, he slept on the train way home. I have to carry him after changing the train from JE to CCK and then walk back home. I was so tired i had an hour sleep. It was a nice day out with the boy.

I wish he remembers this moment. I know I would.......

　　肺虚宜忌原则

　　中国传统医学认为，肺主皮毛，司呼吸。肺虚体质多表现为肺气虚和肺阴虚两大类型。肺阴虚者多因津液消耗，肺失润养所致，通常表现为形瘦羸弱;干咳无痰，或痰少质黏，或咳而痰中带血丝;潮热盗汗，午后颧红，少寐失眠;口干咽燥，喉痒音哑，舌红少苔等。肺气虚者多为久病亏耗，病后元气未复;或因久咳伤气，以致肺气亏虚，表现为咳而气短，咳喘无力，久咳不愈，痰液清稀;倦怠懒言，声音低怯;面色发白，畏风形寒，易患感冒;或有自汗，舌淡苔薄白等。肺虚者多见于肺结核病、肺气肿、肺心病、肺痿、肺不张以及肺癌晚期之人。

　　宜忌原则

　　一般而言，肺气虚者，宜食具有补益肺气作用的食品;肺阴虚者，宜吃具有滋阴润肺的食物。肺虚日久，常可累及脾与肾，故应配合吃些具有补脾益气和补肾纳气作用的食品。这可参阅脾虚和肾虚体质的饮食宜忌内容，也可参考气虚和阴虚体质的饮食宜忌章节。凡肺虚者忌吃辛辣及烟酒，忌吃破气耗气之物，忌吃生冷性寒之物，忌吃炒炸烤爆之类香燥伤阴的食品。

　　肺虚之人宜食物品有。

　　白木耳

　　性平，味甘淡，具有润肺、滋阴、养胃、益气的作用，无论肺气虚或肺阴虚者皆宜，实为补肺佳品。如《本草再新》就有银耳润肺滋阴的记载。《饮片新参》亦云：白木耳清补肺阴，滋液，治劳咳。《增订伪药条辨》中还说：白木耳治肺热肺燥，干咳痰嗽，衄血，咯血，痰中带血。所以，对肺阴虚者更为适宜。

　　燕窝

　　性平，味甘，为清补肺虚之上品，有养阴润肺、益气补虚的功效。《本草从新》说得极为公允：燕窝大养肺阴，化痰止嗽，补而能清，为调理虚损痨瘵之圣药，一切病之由于肺虚，用此皆可治之。凡肺虚之人，不分肺气虚或肺阴虚，食之最宜。

　　百合

　　有补肺润肺的功用。《医学入门》说它能治肺痿肺痈。清代医家吴仪洛曾经指出：久嗽之人，肺气必虚，虚则宜敛，百合之甘敛，甚于五味之酸收也。尤其是肺虚干咳久咳，或痰中带血之人，最宜服食。

　　花生

　　性平，味甘，善补肺气，又能润肺，适宜肺虚久咳之人食用。《滇南本草图说》认为：花生补中益气，盐水煮食养肺。《本草备要》说它补脾润肺。《药性考》还说：生研用下痰，干咳者宜餐，滋燥降火。所以，凡肺虚之人，不分肺气虚或肺阴虚，都适宜用花生水煮服食，不可炒后食用。

　　白果

　　又称银杏。能温肺益气，是一种止咳平喘的食品，有滋养、固肾、补肺之功。明?李时珍曾说：银杏，其气薄味厚，性涩而收，益肺气，定喘嗽，缩小便。适宜肺虚咳嗽和老人肺气虚弱体质的哮喘。如用生菜油　　西谷米

　　性温，味甘，除有健脾作用外，又能补益肺气。中国药科大学叶橘泉教授就说它温中健脾，补肺化痰。对肺气虚弱咳嗽者，叶氏多用西谷米同山药、欠实等一同煮食，更为适宜。

　　胡桃仁

　　性温，味甘，既能补肾，又能补肺，对肺肾两虚、久咳痰喘之人最为适宜。《本草纲目》中记载：胡桃性热，能入肾、肺，惟虚寒者宜之。上通于肺而虚寒喘嗽者宜之。凡肺虚久咳久喘者，宜常食之。

　　海松子

　　俗称松子仁。性温，味甘，是一种理想的润肺补肺食品，历代医家多赞其功。如《本草纲目》说它润肺，治燥结咳嗽。《本草通玄》也认为松子仁能益肺止嗽，补气养血。《玄感传尸方》中有一凤髓汤，用于治疗肺燥咳嗽，就是用松子仁50克，胡桃仁100克，研膏，饭后每服10克。凡肺虚干咳少痰或无痰者，食之最宜。

　　猪肺

　　性平，味甘。《本草图经》说它补肺。明代李时珍认为：猪肺疗肺虚咳嗽、嗽血。故肺虚之人宜常食之。根据中医以脏补脏的理论，肺虚者还适宜经常吃些牛肺、羊肺等。

　　阿胶

　　性平，味甘，能补肺肾之虚。正如《本草经疏》中所说：阿胶入肺肾，补不足，故又能益气，以肺主气，肾纳气也。今世以之疗虚劳咳嗽、肺痿、肺痈脓血杂出等症。不少古代名方，如《小儿药症直诀》中治小儿肺虚，气粗喘促的补肺阿胶汤，《圣济总录》中治久咳嗽的阿胶饮等，都是以阿胶为主药，故凡肺虚者食之颇宜。

　　龟肉

　　力能补虚，古代医家及民间中常用于肺虚久病之人。如《便民食疗》用以治虚劳咯血咳嗽之症，《补缺肘后方》用之于治久咳嗽上气等，都是单用龟肉煮食。四川民间用以治疗肺痨吐血，也是以龟肉为主，配合沙参、冬虫夏草共炖服。所以，肺虚者吃些龟肉也颇适宜。

　　豆腐浆

　　性平，味甘，有补虚润燥、益肺化痰之功，凡肺气虚或肺阴虚者，食之皆宜。如能经常服食，对肺虚体质的康复，颇有效果。其他豆制品，如豆腐脑、豆腐皮、豆腐等，对肺虚之人同样也很适宜。

　　田鸡油

　　又称哈士蜞油。民间用其作强壮剂，它有润肺养阴和补肾益精的功效。《饮片新参》认为：田鸡油养肺、肾阴，治虚劳咳嗽。名医曹炳章亦云：田鸡油泽润肺脏。四川民间对肺虚之人，常用田鸡油同白木耳，或者同土燕窝，或选用阿胶、黄芪等蒸服，效果颇佳。

　　蛤蚧

　　性平，味咸，可以补肺益肾、止咳定喘。如《本草衍义》中说：蛤蚧补肺虚劳嗽有功。明?李时珍亦认为蛤蚧补肺气，功同人参。凡肺虚之人久咳久喘者宜食之。

　　冬虫夏草

　　性温，味甘，除有补肾作用外，更有补肺气、止咳喘、疗虚损的功效。对肺病日久，包括肺结核、支气管扩张、支气管哮喘、慢性支气管炎、肺气肿、肺痿、肺不张、胸膜炎，甚至肺癌患者，阴虚肺弱，动则喘嗽之人，最宜食用。若能与紫河车、山药等一同服食，更为有益。
浸泡白果，还适宜患有肺结核病的肺虚之人服食。由于白果有小毒，故宜炒熟或煮熟后食用。

　　山药

　　性平，味甘，既能补肺虚，又能健脾益肾，肺虚之人，四季皆宜常食山药。《药品化义》中指出：山药，温补而不骤，微香而不燥，循循有调肺之功，治肺虚久嗽，何其稳当。

　　黄芪

　　性微温，味甘，最善补气，尤其能补肺虚之气。中医认为，肺主皮毛，肺气虚则自汗出，又易患感冒。《本经逢原》认为黄芪入肺而固表虚自汗。《得配本草》亦云：肌表之气，补宜黄芪。对肺虚之人体表不固者，配合红枣，煎水代茶，颇为适宜。

　　水獭肝

　　性平，味甘咸，能养阴止咳止血，尤其是对肺结核所致肺气不足或肺肾阴虚者，食之尤宜。早在《别录》中就说它止久嗽。《药性论》亦云治上气咳嗽，劳损疾。《补缺肘后方》认为獭肝治痨病。故凡肺气不足和肺阴虚者，皆宜食之。

　　人参

　　性温，味甘，为强有力的补气强壮药，尤以补肺气和补脾胃之气为最。《滇南本草》说它治肺气虚弱。元代医家李杲也认为：人参能补肺中之气，肺气旺则四脏之气皆旺。《医学启源》还说：治肺气促，短气，少气。由此可见，凡肺气虚弱之人，食之皆宜。

　　此外，肺虚之人还宜经常服食糯米、玉米、粳米、牛奶、羊奶、牛肚、牛肉、猪肚、猪肉、鸡肉、羊肺、鳗鱼、甲鱼、黄鳝、蛙肉、蜂蜜、蜂王浆、灵芝、梨、葡萄、红枣、胎盘、党参、太子参、西洋参、北沙参，以及禽蛋、食用菌等。

　　肺虚之人忌吃下列食物。

　　石榴

　　性温，味酸甜。根据前人经验，石榴有损耗肺气之弊，故凡肺气虚者，不宜多食。如《别录》中记载：损人肺，不可多食。《日用本草》亦云：其汁恋膈成痰，损肺气，病人忌食。这可包括慢性气管炎、肺气肿、矽肺、支气管哮喘等虚喘者，皆应忌食之。

　　荸荠

　　性寒，能消积破气。《本经逢原》中就已指出：荸荠，虚劳咳嗽切禁，以其峻削肺气。因此，凡肺气虚弱之人，无论咳嗽或是虚喘，皆不宜多食。

　　胡桃

　　性大热，味大辛，是一味典型的辛辣刺激食品，古代医家多认为多食动气燥液，耗气伤阴。《海药本草》还说：不宜多服，损肺。元代名医朱丹溪也认为：胡椒性燥，大伤脾胃肺气，久则气大伤，凡病气疾人，益大其祸也。由此可见，凡肺气虚弱之人，皆不宜多吃常吃胡椒。

　　薄荷

　　性凉，味甘辛，辛能发散，耗伤肺气。清?吴仪洛认为：薄荷辛香伐气，多服损肺伤心，虚者远之。《本草经疏》亦云：咳嗽若因肺虚寒客之而无热症者勿服。因此，凡属肺虚所致的咳嗽哮喘，皆当忌之。

　　此外，肺虚者还应忌吃或少吃生萝卜、萝卜子、生姜、大蒜、胡荽、洋葱、槟榔、萝卜缨、香椿头、芥菜、地骷髅、金橘、金橘饼、罗汉果、肉桂、砂仁、豆蔻、菊花、白酒、香烟等。

Last week my company had a major layoff. 10% of the total work force.

Some of the poorer performers get booted and some of the non functional job also got it due to restructuring.

I can see some of the older folks are glad to take the money and go but some couldn't believe this would happen to them. One of them even sit in one corner of the workshop till 9 pm the eve of the announcement (namelist leak out) and couldn't believe it even the next day. He is a hard working tech and almost >50 ppl came and bid him farewell.

Layoff are not easy for those that goes but those are remain are taking more job and more roles.The morale of the company is pretty low but are still worried about the next wave, will there be another

Its going to be real tough and don't see quiting as an alternative for now.

Its tough when you have to control the kids from disrupting the class. Recently Caleb is into this music class and its tiring to hold him back when he gets too excited.

After 8 lessons, i descided I would let him do whatever he wants within some boundary. eg. when the teacher start explaining the next movement or action. I find this less tiring, more enjoyable and fun coz other kids are also interaction with him.

In fact, he volunteered one of the pairs of animal in Old macdonald and I am proud of his gesture.

So I am letting him go and do what he wants... as long as its within civil boundary.

Its been almost about a week since Caleb moved over to my MIL house. She has been very nice to look after him while Caroline does her confinement. With all the aunties around, I am sure he would have no problem getting entertained by them. On top of that, he has his favorite grandpa around him.

However, even with the 2nd one, we still miss Caleb terribly. We last seen him on Tuesday when Jia Hern was born and he looks like he has grown so much more when he came back to visit his mom this morning with his yee yee.

Even my helper misses him. She says the house is so quiet without him.

I guess this is a conflicting feeling we have. On one hand, we wish we can ditch them somewhere so that we can spend the time alone like traveling and all that, but back on our mind is what is the boy doing? where is he now, and is he doing ok?


However, we do not want to disrupt his routine now bring him home to sleep and all that as this might make it difficult for my MIL to manage him after that. With less than a month to CNY, moving house, confinement, reservice, I wish time can slow down and let me have a little time to spend with him each day.

Caleb's younger brother is born at this morning at Glenseagle Hospital by natural birth.

Carol was very brave going through without the epidural or intervention and this is how he looks like.

I was referred by my company to the ENT specialist at SGH for a pimple like growth in my ear which bleeds once a while for few months now. Its quite abnormal to have pimple that occasionally auto bleed and become quite difficult to stop.

Anyway, SGH seems to have improved a lot in terms of service. The appointment through phone was easy and polite. The counter staff was forcibly polite but probably because the morning crowd was a little overwhelming but it was pleasant.

But I guess I was more disturbed not by what is happening to me but what I observed during the whole waiting.

I see 3 to 4 young children, maybe a year older than Caleb, with the hearing aid. It takes great courage for their parents to come to term that their kids is hearing impaired. It is really difficult when all you see the kids do is pointing and making sound, and showing frustration when the parents can't make out what he wants....

At the hearing test lorong, I see about 4 primary schools kids doing the test, and wearing the hearing aids. They looks normal to me if its not because of the aids. I wondered what causes it.. Nature or nuture.... I wonder.....

I also see old folks going to the Miss C,probably the hearing aid nurse who sell and send them for repair. I always thought those things caused less than $500 but seems like its about $1500. One 82 year old lady wanted the nurse to replace the battery thinking that the aids run out of battery but it seems like the device is bad and its not repairable with no more spare parts available. The poor lady kept saying that she only recieved $5k at the beginning of the year and she can only pay by then.... I can see her desperation... The nurse was very kind and went through trouble of calling other agent to see if there is possibility of repairing it. Also at the same time, loan her one until she can come buy the new one.....

The 76 year old lady next to me say to me, I would be like that in 6 years time. Old people, can't contribute and spend a lot of money ....

Singapore economy is booming, but society is deteriorating. Especially with the IR.

What will Singapore be when I am 82, if I get to live that long as what the government want us to believe...

Are we teaching the young one honesty and value that our parent, parent's parents once taught us?

Life has been hectic this year.

Company is not doing well and we have been going through wave and wave of retrenchment in US and Singapore. Fortunately or not, Singapore are offering renewal program, so call, to those with more than 20 years of work to reduce headcount. They compensate with 1 year 2 weeks up to 16 months pay. Some welcome it but some are being force to take or else... life will be tough if they stay. I know someone who is doing ok but had personality conflict with boss being recommended to go. I guess that's what the chinese call it, business world is liken the war zone..

As for me, I will probably safe for now caused I have pretty good track record and don't have 20 years of working there. However, as the company cut cost and labour, I am now carrying 3 engineers job with no additional headcount. I am accountable for every damn things that these previous guys are doing and more. Just this week, I am supposed to account for my existence in this company. I mean, doing 3 men job isn't enough for my existence?

I guess this is not the end but I am taking one step at a time. I can choose to get worried about it or work on it and hopefully still survived this waves. Its not the first but its the worst I've seen.

I didn't exactly tell people about my work situation, that's probably a guy inherent kinda of crap of not wanting the family to get worried about but that's the instinct we have. I'm glad I have a wife who is always conscious about being financially secure. She's the one who spoke to me about selling the house, going to smaller flat and saving for the future. I don't think that far and I will persevere until I burnt out. That is the part I gotten from my mom.

Now, I am just adapting to the immerse work load at work, coming home to play with my son, and logging on again to my company's server to continue working and thinking. I told my boss this.... I will leave on time because I only have up to 9.30 pm to spend with my son, that's easily 3 hours a day I have with him. After he sleeps, I will work on whatever I cannot complete for that day. Hopefully, he understands that as he still see emails coming in past 11 pm in his inbox.....

We live in a place where we are always in a rush, we think too much, we worry about getting stress up and got more stress up thinking about how to reduce stress... Let us use an example: You are eating breakfast with your family. Your
daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no
control over what just happened. What happens next will be determined by how you react.

You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over.
She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and
criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A
short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back
downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish
breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must
leave immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late,
you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit zone. After a 15-minute
delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your
daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at
the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible.

As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home,
When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your
spouse and daughter.

Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?

A. Did the coffee cause it?
B. Did your daughter cause it?
C. Did the policeman cause it?
D. Did you cause it?

The answer is “D”.

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in
those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and
should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say,
“Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful next time”. Grabbing a
towel, you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back
down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the
bus.

She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minute s early and cheerfully greet the staff.
Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.
Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90%
was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle.

If someone says something negative about you, do not be a sponge. Let the
attack roll off like water on glass. You do not have to let the negative
comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong
reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic?
* Do you lose your temper?
* Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off)
* Do you curse?
* Does your blood pressure skyrocket?
* Do you try to bump them?

WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive. Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it. You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job. The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger.
Why are stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle. The result? Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.
